A movie gift basket is one of my favorite theme gift baskets to make. It's appropriate for many people and because it's easy and inexpensive to find theme gifts to place in the gift basket. It works as a birthday gift, graduation gift, and for anytime for those "difficult teenager gifts."

Start with the container. A wicker or wire basket is easy to work with, but an unbreakable tray is okay, too. If you want to use an theme-type of container, visit the popcorn containers page of this website. Blockbuster sells similar containers and some kitchenware departments carry bowls with "Popcorn" painted on the bowl. If you have a limited budget, check your local dollar-type store. Another thrifty idea is to ask your local produce person if he has any small wooden crates that he would give you.

In addition to movies, you may want to place theatre gift card or certificate, blank video tape or dvd, a Zagat's movie guide book, an assortment of microwave popcorn (spice mixes or toppings for popcorn), cans of soda, plastic cups, straws, candy, nuts, chips, or decorative paper napkins in a homemade movie gift basket.
