Homemade Kitchen Gift Baskets
Create unique kitchen gift baskets as housewarming, wedding, bridal shower gifts. Or, for all holidays or special occasions for anyone who enjoys cooking or baking. When one puts together a gift basket, you are creating a one-of-a-kind gift; a gift that is truly personalized for the recipient as well as for the occasion.
Planning Kitchen Gift Baskets
What kind of cooking or baking does the recipient enjoy? Maybe he or she is a beginner in the kitchen and wants to learn how to make a favorite food.
You may want to decorate your baskets for a holiday, birthday, etc. Choose a container, use colors, or decorative items that will indicate the event or theme.
If you are working within a limited budget, you may want to visit my
cheap gift baskets
web page for lots of tips and frugal ideas.
Another option is to include homemade food items or mixes in your gift basket. You can find dozens of suggestions at my
gifts from the kitchen
web page.
Who doesn't enjoy a homemade muffin on occasion? This is a nice (and unusual) theme, which would be perfect for the beginning baker. A wicker or wire basket is the ideal container; add shredded brown paper as a filler that will help hold the gift items in place. Include gifts such as measure cups, measuring spoons, cupcake papers, muffins mixes, pot holders, and a tea towel. Individual silicone muffin cups are readily available in many colors and would make a lovely gift addition.
There are many other baking themes; bread, cookies, pies, etc. Instead of the traditional basket, consider using a mixing bowl,
bread pan,
or pie pan as the container. Line it with a pretty terry cloth towel and fill it with appropriate gift items. Small cookbooks are always nice or handwritten recipe cards with your favorite recipes.
Since everyone eats salads, they make useful kitchen gift baskets also. Use a salad bowl or a
colander
for the container. Line it with a decorative tea towel and fill it with gifts like salad dressing mixes, tongs, wooden spoons, a pepper grinder, cheese grater, garlic press, bacon bits, small bottles of olive oil and gourmet vinegar, croutons, or any other items used in salad making.
This web site has many specific pages dedicated to specific food or beverage
theme gift baskets
that will suit your needs, I'm sure.
Kitchen Basket Ideas
There are many different gadgets that are suitable items to place in kitchen gift baskets, such as an oven timer, meat thermometer, cheese grater, pepper mill, garlic press, lemon/lime juicer, wire whisks, wooden spoons, vegetable peeler, tongs, zester, and spatulas to name a few. Here is a short list of food items that are prepackaged and readily available at your local grocer or supermarket: bottled herbs and spices, mustards, chopped garlic in oil, bottles of vinegar, salad dressings (packets of mixes or bottled), jars of hot or cherry peppers, hot sauces, crackers, bread sticks, dried beans, pasta, rice, and dozens of other food mixes. Fabric items (kitchen towels, cloth napkins, oven mitts, placemats, or potholders) placed in the bottom of your chosen container make a nice cushion for the gift items. As a hostess gift, place shredded brown paper in a wicker basket. Spread an opened cloth napkin over the shredded paper. Place a small loaf of bread or several dinner rolls (wrapped in clear paper) on top of the napkin. Add small jars of jam and honey. If you want to include a few pieces of fresh fruit choose a basket that is large enough to hold everything. For a decorative touch, allow the corners of the napkin to hang over the sides of the basket.
