How To Make Lavender Soap
The Easy Way
Learn how to make lavender soap the uncomplicated way! There is no lye involved and only three readily available and inexpensive components. I've also includes easy-to-follow directions, how to choose and prepare the molds, and an easy gift wrapping idea.
You will need one 4-ounce bar of castile soap (Kirk's is a common brand), 1/4 cup water, and two tablespoons dried lavender leaves.
Begin by grating the castile soap; you will need one cup of grated soap. Place the grated soap in a double boiler that contains hot water in the bottom. Add the 1/4 cup of water to the grated soap and stir over medium heat until the soap and water are combined. Add the dried lavender flowers and stir just until combined.
Preparing the Molds: When finished, you will have about eight ounces of soap. You can choose one large mold, two medium size molds, or several mini molds. Before pouring the soap mixture into the molds, coat the inside with vegetable shortening or petroleum jelly.
Pour the mixture into the mold(s). Allow to cool completely at room temperature. Unmold by turning the molds over; tap gently if the soap doesn't fall out. Dry the bars for a few days before wrapping or using.
Gift Wrapping: Wrap each bar individually in netting, cello, or sheer fabric. Gather the excess wrap over the top of each bar or at both ends and tie with ribbon or raffia; trim excess wrapping material, but leave some for a decorative touch. Add a small sticker with lavender flowers or a small peel and stick gift tag noting "Lavender Soap".
