Homemade Vinegar Recipes,

Dipping Oil Recipes, and Decorating Tips

homemade vinegars

Use these homemade vinegar recipes and dipping oil recipes as individual gifts or to place in your homemade gift baskets.

Making flavored vinegars is really quite easy to do. You can even make them right in the bottles. If you do this, give the finished product at least a week for the flavors to be absorbed.

Another method is to make the vinegar in a larger glass container. Crush herbs or spices with a garlic press or mortar and pestle before placing into the jar. Put the lid on the jar and store at room temperature. After it has reached the desired flavor, strain the ingredients through paper coffee filters. Add fresh whole herbs or spices to the presentation jars and fill with the vinegar.

Vinegars will keep for a long time, but it's a good idea to sterilize the base vinegar before you begin the recipe.

Pretty bottles add a decorative touch for these kind of homemade gifts. Save your decorative bottles or purchase new ones at craft and housewares stores. Cruets and small clear wine bottles are a nice option.

Wash used bottles in warm soapy water and allow to dry throughly. Remove old labels, by placing a clean cloth (soaked in warm white vinegar) on the label for 15-20 minutes.

Selecting Bottles or Jars:

Cruet bottles work well for infused oils and flavored vinegars.

If your bottle doesn't have a stopper, purchase corks in a craft or hardware store.

Square bottles are very attractive.

Finishing Touches for Bottles and Jars:

Tie with ribbon, raffia, or twine.

Adhere a label to the bottle or jar noting the name of the recipes; or tie a label into the ribbon, raffia, or twine.
