Homemade Picnic Gift Baskets

empty picnic basket

Why not create your own homemade picnic gift baskets for those who enjoy the outdoors, the beach, or romance? This is one of those gifts that work for many people; particularly suitable for couples. It's especially nice as an anniversary, wedding, or bridal shower gift.

There are several things to consider before choosing the empty picnic basket. Select a small one if your gift is for a couple or a larger one for a family. There are also different styles of picnic baskets. There is the traditional style, a suitcase style, barrel shaped, as well as picnic totes.

Homemade picnic gift baskets are easier to assembly than most gift baskets. Start by placing a cloth tablecloth and napkins in the basket. Then place your gift and food items where they are visible. Fill in any empty spaces with unbreakable food items such as salt and pepper shakers and mustard and catsup containers.

picnic baskets If you have a limited budget, visit your local dollar store for items to place in the basket. Look for acrylic plates, mugs and glasses; plastic knives, forks and spoons. You could use a plastic tablecloth and paper napkins instead of fabric also. Walk through the aisles and see what is available.

Another idea is to make your homemade picnic gift baskets with a barbecue theme by adding barbecue utensils, an apron, bbq sauce, citronella candles, etc.

It's easier to personalize homemade picnic gift baskets than purchased picnic baskets. Simply add items that relate to the recipients, their favorite snack foods, and select beverages. If there is a golfer in the family, include some golf balls, tees, or a golf towel. If there are children in the family, include a yo-yo, jump rope, sand toy, coloring books, balloons, or bubbles.

If the recipients prefer gourmet type of foods place caviar, smoked salmon, an assortment of cheeses, crackers, gourmet mustard, bread sticks, jams, and something sweet like chocolates or shortbread cookies. If you include a bottle of wine, add a corkscrew and acrylic wine glasses.

Homemade picnic gift baskets are more than a one-time gift. They will be used over and over again. If the occasion is one of romance, include a cd of their favorite music, a scented candle, and champagne instead of wine. Have fun with this gift and it will be greatly appreciated.

If you prefer giving homemade gifts, then you may want to make citronella candles to place in any gift baskets that have an outdoor theme. These candles are great standalone gifts also.
