Homemade Gourmet Gift Baskets

gourmet gift basket

Homemade gourmet gift baskets are a great idea if you want to personalize a gift. Gourmet foods are considered unique or special foods by many; these foods probably aren't eaten as part of one's regular diet, but rather reserved for special occasions.

The size of the basket, or other gift container, depends on the number of people who will be the recipients of this lovely gift. You can make a small gourmet gift basket for one person or a couple, or a larger one for a family or group of people, such as an office staff.

Here are several tips that should be helpful if you're considering making a gourmet gift basket:

An overstuffed finished gift basket looks best. If yours looks sparse, add a few small indivually wrapped candies or snack items, silk flowers, or other decorative items.

A gift-in-a-jar is a nice addition. You'll find several easy ideas with directions, and decorating ideas on this website.

If you want to include a scented candle, opt for a food scent so your food items don't absorb an undesirable scent. Chocolate and wine scents are nice choices.

Use small cello or plastic bag to individually wrap small items. Tie the bags with ribbon or raffia for a pretty finished look.

Wait until the last minute to place fresh fruits, cheeses, or baked goods in your homemade gourmet gift baskets.

If your budget is limited, buy an empty basket and tea towel at your local dollar store. Use a fresh loaf of bread wrapped in a clear bag or cello wrap as the primary gift. Add a small jar of preserves or jelly, a few herbal tea bags, hot chocolate mixes, or a small can of gourmet coffee. Add a card and your homemade gourmet gift baskets are complete.

A basket with fresh fruit, dried fruit, canned nuts, nuts in the shell, cheese, and gourmet crackers is an easy idea which is appropriate for many people.

Give your homemade gourmet gift baskets a personal touch by adding home baked items.

Homemade gourmet gift baskets make wonderful office gifts because they can be shared. Fill your gift basket with individually wrapped cheeses, salami, ham, crackers, holiday candies, cookies, nuts, tea bags, gourmet coffee, hot chocolate packets, and add fresh fruit at the last minute. Small size fruits work better in this case. Don't forget the grapes (both red and green); cut large bunches into smaller bunches and place throughout for nice color. Dried fruits and trail mixes work well in gift baskets, too.

If your gourmet gift basket is for a couple, you might want to include two coffee mugs, tea cups, or wine glasses. A cookbook, copy of "Gourmet Magazine", an unscented candle, small candy dish, and two cloth napkins would make nice additions.
