Homemade Fruit Gift Baskets Created By You

Homemade fruit gift baskets are wonderful gifts for everyone, for any occasion, and for all budgets. If you want to give a personalized gift, make your own fruit baskets and add items that are favorites of the recipient.

fireside basket Start by selecting the container for your gift items. Since fruit is very colorful, I prefer a natural colored wicker basket. A fireside basket is very appropriate for fruit. However, if you are on a tight budget ask your produce person if he has a small crate or other appropriate container. Some grapes are shipped in an oval wooden slat container that would look nice.

You can line the container with many different filler products. If your container is very deep you may want to fill the bottom with floral foam or crumpled paper and cover it with tissue paper, decorative shred, or a pretty tea towel.

In addition to fruit there are many other gift items that are appropriate. Nuts, dried fruit, chocolates, cheeses, and small jars of preserves, jellies, or jams are all readily available. Another idea is to include beverages; tea bags, fruit basket small packages of gourmet coffee or hot chocolate, or even a bottle of wine.

After you have all the gift items, play around with the placement of the fruits and other gift items. I think it's easiest to place the fruits first and then the other gift items to hold the fruits in place.
Finish off your homemade fruit gift baskets by placing them in clear cello bags and add ribbon and bows to close the bags. There are many other options for finishing off all homemade gift baskets at the assembly page of my website. You may want to consider some of these ideas:
  • Make your fruit baskets with a variety of berries. Add a package of small cakes for shortcake, and a can of whipped cream. Of course, you would have to put this together just before presenting the gift.

  • Create fruit baskets with an Italian theme using Italian cheeses, salami, and prosciutto in addition to the fruits and nuts. If you include proscuitto, include a small cantalope or honeydew melon.

  • Place a small mint plant in with the fruit. Add loose tea and other tea items such as a tea ball, sugar cubes, sugar tongs, etc.
  • chocolate covered strawberries

  • Make chocolate dipped strawberries or coffee spoons to place in your homemade fruit gift baskets.

  • Add homemade snacks using one of these recipes.

  • Use this recipe to make spicy apple cider vinegar, which makes a delicious dressing for fruit salad along with a drizzle of olive oil.

  • Place a fruit scented candle in your fruit baskets.
Homemade fruit gift baskets are easy and inexpensive to make and they make wonderful gifts for family and friends as well as work associates.
