Homemade Food Gifts

Easy and Inexpensive

Everyone enjoys homemade food gifts on holidays or other special occasions. They are wonderful gift ideas for just about everyone. Therefore, why not personalize these gifts by making favorite foods of the recipients and decorate them accordingly.

The presentation for a food gifts can only enhance the gift itself. Even if you aren't particularly creative, the ideas I've included are easy to make and inexpensive as well.

soup in a mug gift Get Well Soup Gift
Choose a soup mug of the suitable size and shape. Place several packets of dry soup mix, a small package of crackers, a few tea bags, and some cookies in the mug. Fill in any empty spaces with small silk flowers or colorful wrapped candy.
Coffee Gift In A Mug
In addition to an individual gift, this is a great gift idea when you need several similar or identical gifts. Start by selecting a tall coffee mug for each gift. If desired, place a small amount of shredded brown paper, straw, or purchased shred in the bottom of the mug to help anchor the gift items. Purchase or make a couple of taller homemade food gifts such as chocolate dipped pretzel rods or biscotti; these items should be individually wrapped in clear wrap which is tied at the top using curly ribbon, raffia, or other narrow ribbon. Place the tall items in the mug and add several small packets of gourmet coffee in the front. Add as many items (such as wrapped candies) as you have room for.

Decorate the gift with curly ribbon tied at the top of the bag or around the handle of the mug if you chose not to use a bag. Remember to add a gift tag tied in with the ribbon. A nice addition is to make chocolate coffee spoons. Wrap the finished spoons individually and stick them in the mug or tie them with the ribbon.
Sweet Treats In Chinese Take Out Containers
Like the coffee mug gift above this is a gift idea that would work well for work associates or family members where you want several gifts that are alike.

To enhance the presentation, add cello wrap or other paper that is stiff enough to stay put; place several pieces in the container so that the ends will show above the container. Then fill the container with cookies, candy, or other sweets.

There are two different ways you can finish off these gourmet foods gifts. One way is to close the top and tie a wide ribbon around the center (see illustration). Ther other method is to leave the flaps of the filled container up and place it in a clear cello bag with lots of curly ribbon to tie the bag tightly.
