Homemade Easter Baskets

How To Make Unique Easter Baskets

Easter egg

Create your own homemade Easter baskets that the children will remember. One way to accomplish this is by personalizing them for the children receiving the baskets. Include some of their favorite things, even if they aren't Easter related. Each child is different and unique in his or her own way; add a book, toy car, small doll accessory, or whatever will make them smile.

Here are the basic steps for creating homemade Easter baskets:
  • Purchase an empty basket in the child's favorite color and add coordinating grass.

  • Fill with their favorite Easter candy and little toys. Pez dispensers, small books, crayons, stickers, bubbles, and egg shaped Play Dough are all good gifts.

  • Then top it off with a stuffed bunny, duckling, or baby chick; hand puppets are nice alternatives to stuffed animals.

  • Wrapping the completed basket in cello wrap is very decorative and will keep it dust free. If you can find cello bags, they are easier to work with.
  • Decorate your completed basket with curly ribbon cascading down the front and add a gift tag.

Decorative Tip: Tie a bunny cookie cutter or other decorative item in with the ribbon.

Cookies decorated in bunny or egg shapes are nice to include in your Easter baskets. If you aren't a baker, you can purchase ready baked cookies at bakeries. If you make your own, wrap them in cellophane and tie with a narrow ribbon.

You could make traditional homemade Easter baskets with a colorful basket and coordinating grass. Include a plush bunny, chocolate eggs, jelly beans, decorated hard boiled eggs, and marshmallow peeps. Wrap the completed basket in cellophane and add a pretty pastel bow.

If you are visiting family or friends for easter, you may want to take a gift for the entire family. If you prefer to use a container other than a traditional basket, you may want to consider using a wire basket or serving tray. In addition to easter treats you may want to include herbal tea, gourmet coffee, chocolates, a can of nuts, dried fruits, etc. Line your container with grass or tissue paper. Fill in any empty spaces with silk lilies, tulips, or other spring flowers.

daffodills A lovely hostess gift for Easter is to place a potted seasonal flowering plant inside a wicker basket. If you choose a basket with a handle, a plant with tall flowers (such a tulips or daffodils) is a great idea. Add a bow on the handle that matches the color of the flowers. Fill in any empty spaces between the flower pot and the basket with Easter grass. Taking a little extra time to coordinate this gift will get you ooohs and aaahs when you walk in the door.
