This is also a good choice if you are going to visit someone who is under the weather, as a hostess gift, or just to say hello.

Choose a small basket, place a cloth napkin or tea towel in the bottom, and fill it with jellies, herbal teas, gourmet coffee, shortbread cookies, etc. Add a couple of fresh muffins or scones and some fresh fruit at the last minute so they remain fresh.

You can even make your own scones with this Blueberry Scones Recipe. I've also included gift decorating ideas for these scones. Actually, they are wonderful standalone gifts. If you don't care for blueberries, you can substitute raspberries, raisins, or dried cherries. And, they are easy to make and delicious to eat. Test them on your family and it will become a standard gift for neighbors, teachers, or most anyone.
If you need a housewarming, anniversary or bridal shower gift, start by choosing a container; wire or wicker baskets or trays are very nice containers. They are easy to assembly as well. purple coffee mug

champagne glasses If you are looking for a romantic gift idea, then a breakfast-in-bed theme is a nice concept. Choose pretty baskets or breakfast trays. A bottle of champagne, a pair of champagne flutes, two linen napkins, a book of poetry, a cd of romantic music, chocolates, and scented candles are all nice gifts to include.

Another idea for homemade breakfast gift baskets is to make this granola mix in a jar. Line a wicker basket with a tea towel or fabric napkin. In addition to the granola mix include a bag of gourmet coffee beans or ground coffee, some herb teas, and top it off with some fresh oranges or other fruit.
Maple Granola Mix In A Jar
This recipe makes about six cups of granola. It will fill one quart and one pint jars; or three pint jars.

granola mix in a jar 1-1/3 cups unsweetened flaked coconut
  1/4 cup sliced almonds
3-1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
   1/3 cup vegetable oil
      1 cup maple syrup
   2/3 cup golden raisins
   2/3 cup chopped dates
   1/2 cup chopped dried apples
   1/3 cup chopped dried apricots

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place the almonds and coconut in a jellyroll pan (or a cookie sheet with sides) and place in the oven. Toast for about 10-12 minutes, until the coconut is golden brown. Transfer to a bowl to cool. Toast the oats in the same pan, stirring occasionally, for about 20 minutes, until lightly browned. Add to the bowl with the almonds and coconut.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the oil and syrup and bring to a boil. Pour over the oats, coconut, and almonds mixture and stir well to blend. Transfer to the jellyroll pan and bake for 15 minutes, until the mixture is crisp. Let cool, transfer to a large bowl, and add the remaining ingredients.

Place the cooled granola in airtight jars, add a label, and tie ribbon or raffia around the lid, if desired, as a decorative touch.

This granola will stay fresh for about one month in airtight jars or other airtight containers.
