Create Beautiful Holiday Gift Baskets
Holiday gift baskets are particularly nice gifts for a family, coworkers, or other group situations. If you are creating a gift basket for a family, personalize your gift basket with gift and food items that indicate a shared experience or common interest.
If the family enjoys going to the movies or watching movies on television, make them a movie gift basket. Use a large popcorn container and fill it with packages of microwave popcorn, candy, nuts, paper napkins, and cans of soda pop. Add a gift certificate to their local movie theatre or for a movie rental.
Another holiday gift suggestion is to make holiday gift baskets with a Sunday breakfast theme. If this idea interest you, visit my web page dedicated to making
breakfast gift baskets.
Many gift baskets for group of peoples contain only food and beverage items. Fruit baskets are especially nice and easy to make. Some produce store even sell empty baskets. Choose fruit that will hold up for a couple of days and are colorful. Apples, oranges, grapefruit, and pears are good choices. You can also add dried fruit, nuts, cheeses, salami, wheat crackers, or bread sticks. It's nice to include something sweet like to package of shortbread cookies or chocolates. Or you might add herbal tea bags, specialty coffee, or hot cocoa packets.
A couple of years ago a wonderful product came out that works very well in gift baskets. BAKER'S Dipping Chocolate comes in a can and you can find it in your local grocery store. It works for dipping wedges of fruit, pretzels, cookies, and many other food items.
Homemade holiday gift baskets for adults can include a bottle of wine, champagne, or a cordial. Add a couple of glasses, chocolates, pecans, and a scented candle and you have a lovely gift. If romance is intended, add some Hershey's Kisses, a CD of romantic music, a book of poetry, or something heart shaped.
There is a variety of
containers
to choose from. Wicker baskets, wooden crates, and unbreakable trays with an edge are all readily available and easy to work with. Choose filler materials that work with your theme. Purchased shred, straw, shredded paper, or tissue paper are all easy to work with. Fill in the empty spaces with small silk flowers or colorful wrapped candies.
If you prefer to wrap your completed
holiday gift baskets,
cello wrap works the best. Center the completed gift basket on the cello, bring it over the top, and tie it with ribbon. Add a bow and gift card if you like.
If you wish to indicate the holiday being celebrated, choose colors of filler, ribbon, or wrapped candy for the specific holiday.
During the holiday season, craft fairs are a good place to look for unique ideas to use for making gift baskets. Many craft stores carry baskets, small wooden crates, cellophane wrap, and ribbon to make nice bows.
