Homemade Healthy Gift Baskets
Healthy gift baskets are great gifts for people who are interested in wellness and fitness. Creating gift baskets for those who follow a healthy lifestyle is easier now that ever before as there is a huge selection of health related foods available. Check out your supermarket, drugstore, bookstore, and even your local dollar type store for containers and other decorative items.
When in doubt, go for wicker baskets full of fresh fruit and other healthy snacks. In addition to a colorful selection of fresh fruit include dried fruits such as cranberries, blueberries, prunes, cherries, etc. Choose appropriate size baskets that will hold your intended food and gift items; line the empty basket with plenty of purchased straw so that the fresh fruit doesn't get bruised. Remember that gift baskets that appear to be overstuffed look much better than sparsely filled ones. Fill in any empty spaces with more straw, or scatter nuts in the shell between the fruit or other gift items.
If you have a limited budget, ask the proprietor of a fruit and vegetable store or your local supermarket if they have a small bushel basket or wooden crate that is used when shipping produce. If they have one I'm sure they will give it to you at no charge.
In addition to baskets or wooden crates for making healthy gift baskets you may want to consider unbreakable bowls, trays, or colanders. It seems that many stores now carry a colorful selection of plastic serving bowls and serving trays that are inexpensive and would work well. TIPS: Trays with an edge are easier to work with. Colanders make wonderful containers for a selection of salad makings.
I prefer to use a natural kind of filler materials for food related gift baskets. In addition to purchased straw, shredded brown paper, newspaper, or even peanuts in the shell are all nice choices.
Other healthy food items you may like to include in your healthy gift baskets are herbal teas, small boxes of raisins, travel mix, sugar free sweets, soy treats, pretzels, or small cans of real fruit juices. Shop for sugar free or low fat foods, such as salad dressings, dips, salsa, crackers, popcorn, or oven baked chips.
There are many nonfood items that would be valuable to health conscious people. Diet or exercise books, magazines, or DVD's come to mind. Napkins, tea towels, or serving utensils are readily available and inexpensive items, too.
Finish off your gift baskets with ribbon and a gift card. If desired, wrap your completed basket full of healthy gifts in cello wrap or cello bags; secure the cello with enough curly ribbon so that it cascades down the front of your finished gift basket.
