Gift Basket Supplies

For Making Your Own theme Gift Baskets

Selecting the gift basket supplies that will fit your needs when creating your own gift baskets. Choose products that fit into your budget and that will also be helpful during the assembly process.

wicker basket Here is my attempt in explaining gift basket supplies and their uses, many of which I have used.

Choose an empty basket or other gift container based on your budget, the number and sizes of gift items you intend to place in the container, and the theme for your gift. For lots of detailed information about specific containers, visit the gift basket containers page of this web site.

Filler materials: If your container is deep you may need to place floral foam or crumpled brown paper in the bottom before adding the decorative filler. Since the items you place in the container should be visible, this will help lift the items. yellow shred There are many different decorative filler materials you can use. Purchased shred comes in dozens of colors and available in some party or card stores. I purchase my shred (as well as other gift basket supplies) in the local dollar store. Straw is very appropriate for masculine gift baskets; many craft stores carry this straw. You can also make your own decorative filler by shredding old maps, comic book pages, sheet music, magazine or newspaper pages, wrapping paper, or brown paper. A shredder is helpful for some types of paper or you can simply cut it with scissors.

Double sided tape or glue dots can be used to secure gifts by taping them together. Bamboo skewers work well to secure bulkier items. Simply tape or tie the skewers to the gift item and use the bottom part of the skewer as a pick to anchor the gift where you want it. Cut off any excess skewer that may be unattractive if visible.

Cellophane bags or cello wrap is used when you prefer to completely wrap your finished baskets. Netting or tulle are lovely alternatives for bridal shower or spa gift baskets. Use small cello bags for cookies, candy, or other small gift items.

bows Bows, ribbon, raffia, twine, or curly ribbon give you baskets a finished look. You may want to place a bow on a bamboo skewer and place it directly in the filled baskets and place curly ribbon cascading down the front over the cellophane wrapping.

There are so many different decorative items that you can attach to ribbon or to place amongst the gifts. Silk greenery or small silk flowers are lovely in feminine gift baskets. Scatter mixed nuts or peanuts in the shell for holiday or sports theme baskets. Individually wrapped candy such as Hershey's Kisses to add a touch of color. Baby rattles, candy canes, cookie cutters, etc. are all nice embellishments.

If you would like to make some food or other gift items, visit the homemade gifts web page of this site.

Finally, don't forget to add a gift tag or card.
