Painted and Galvanized Pails

galvanized pail

Galvanized pails and small tubs are not only useful gift basket containers, they also make the assembly process easier. If you prefer a container that is less rustic, painted variations are available in hardware stores, department stores, and even party supply stores.

Many themes can be assembled in decorative or galvanized pails. They work really well when bottles or wine, champagne, beer, or soft drinks are used as gifts. You will need to begin by filling the bottom of the bucket with crumpled paper. Then use straw or shredded paper between the bottles, food and other gift items. This will keep the gifts where you place them. If you have a shredder, you can make your own shredded newspaper, brown paper, or other unique paper.

TIPS: (1) The crumpled paper in the bottom of the container should elevate the gifts so they are partially visible over the top. (2) Peanuts in the shell tossed among the gifts add both an edible and decorative touch. (3) Wrap bottles in burlap and tie with twine for a rustic look. (4) If you are handy with a brush, follow these directions to paint your own galvanized pails.

Even plastic buckets can be used as a container for gifts. This works for cleaning supplies, to hold gardening gifts, or for a housewarming gift basket. Also, it's a great idea for the car buff; fill the bucket with car cleaning and polishing items; add a CD his favorite music.

Here are several other ideas using pails for the container:
  • Choose a colorful container and fill it with snacks, candy bars, popcorn, and cans of soft drinks.

  • The makings or a particular cocktail, such as a martini, margarita, or cosmopolitan. Add colorful purchases shred, unbreakable cocktail glasses, napkins, and cocktail umbrellas, etc.

  • pail gift
  • A small pastel colored pail would be a lovely gift filled with bath products. Add a net sponge, loofah, or washcloths to help hold the gifts in place.

  • Use small galvanized pails lined with decorative paper napkins for a gift of homemade cookies, candy, brownies, etc. Tie a cookie cutter or other decorative item around the handle. This makes a delightful hostess gift, particularly for a holiday.

  • For the grill master, assembly a selection of tools, gloves, sauces, spices, etc. This is a nice Father's Day Gift.

  • A tub can be used to cool beer when attending a picnic, July 4th celebration, a tailgating party, Super Bowl party, etc.

  • As a gift for anyone who enjoys flowers, place a layer of pebbles in the bottom of a small tub. Arrange several flower bulbs among the pebbles and add potting soil. Tie a small gardening tool or a silk flower to the handle. Add a tag noting the type of bulbs planted and any necessary instructions, such as when to water, place in sun, etc.

  • For a Christmas gift, use a red or green bucket. Place sparkly garland or purchased shred over a base of brown or white crumpled paper. Arrange ornaments, pine cones, candles, or other small gift items in the garland or shred. Top it off by adding a colorful bow with bells to the handle.

  • Galvanized pail or other small galvanized containers are nice choices to hold gifts of homemade cookies, brownies, candy, etc. Start by placing a suitable size see-through bag inside the pail; this bag should be several inches taller than the container. Them simply place the sweets inside the bag and tie the bag closed with curly ribbon or raffia. If desired, place a bow along with a gift tag on the handle.

  • Choose a bright colored sand pail for a child's gift. Fill it with sand toys, seashells, sunglasses, sunscreen, and some well-wrapped favorite treats.
