Make Your Own Football Gift Baskets

For Super Bowl Parties or Tailgaters

It's really easy to make football gift baskets for the sports fan in your family or as football coaches gifts. Also they are great as gifts for super bowl parties or as a tailgating gift.

beer in pail Select an appropriate container, and fill it with football theme gifts and well wrapped snacks. Baskets, trays, or unbreakable pails, tubs, or basins which could be used to chill beverages. If you don't have much time or prefer to keep it simple, go to your local hardware store or house wares department and pick up a galvanized pail or small tub. Line it with lots of crumpled newspaper or brown paper and fill it with bottles or cans of beer. Then add several small packages of chips, pretzels, and nuts. If you choose bottles you'll need to place something soft between them so the bottles don't break; shredded brown paper or newspaper works well. Or scatter peanuts in the shell around the bottles.
For a less expensive idea, purchase a large coffee or beer mug in a dollar-type store. Place tissue paper or shred in favorite teams colors in the bottom of the mug to hold the football gifts in place. Fill the mug with small sports theme items and snack foods. Beef jerky, energy bars, and a bottle/can opener all fit well in a mug; add a small team banner for a decorative touch and place the finished gift in a small clear bag tied at the top with raffia or twine.

In addition to bags of snacks and cans or bottles of beer or soda, you may want to include some of these items in your football gift baskets: the recipient's favorite team cap socks, can cover, gloves, sweatbands, trading cards, key chain, an issue or subscription to Sports Illustrated Magazine, a football video, dvd, or book. If you want a really special gift, look for a Christmas tree ornament or a bobble head figure.

If you are attending a super bowl party, why not put together an assortment of cheeses, salami, pepperoni, crackers, tortilla chips, jars of salsa and dip, and several packets of microwave popcorn as a host/hostess gift.

Finally, this recipe for caramel nut popcorn balls are yummy and look great in your football gift baskets. Make them on the smallish side and wrap each in clear paper tied with twine or raffia.
