Homemade Fishing Gift Baskets

fishing gear

Fishing gift baskets are ideal gifts for anyone who loves fishing. It's a great gift for a birthday, anniversary, Father's Day, Christmas, or any special occasion. Although we generally think of men when we think of fishing, don't forget the women and couples who enjoy fishing, too.

Let's start with the container for your gift basket. In addition to a wicker basket, a wooden crate, fishing creel basket or tackle box are nice ideas, too.

If this is your first attempt at making a gift basket, you may want to read through my detailed assembly and decorating web page which explains everything in detail. You will find unique filler product suggestions, learn how to tie bows, ideas for decorating your gift basket, and step-by-step assembly directions.

Here are several gift items you may want to include in your fishing gift baskets: Fishing tackle and other tools such as bobbers, hooks, line, lures, pliers, or a pocket knife. Other gift suggestions are an insulated coffee mug, a bottle or can cooler, a floating key chain, or a fish cap pin.
Useful items such as sun screen, insect repellent, or a first aid kit. A photo frame with as fishing theme, a fishing book, issue of a magazine or a video for fishermen, or a gift certificate to a local tackle shop.

Include his favorite beverage such as energy drinks or instant coffee or tea bags for the early morning fisherman. Finally, well-wrapped snack foods, beef jerky, peanuts in the shell, pretzels, energy bars, and don't forget the gummy worms candy.

Another idea is to include some cooking related items in your gift basket. A seafood cookbook and jars or mixes of cooking seasonings, sauces, or marinades are some ideas.

The best gift basket is a personalized one so create it with gift items that are favorites of the recipient.

fish netting Decorative Tip: Fishing net adds a unique finishing touch. Simple drape the netting around the rim of your completed fishing gift baskets; play around with it until you get it just right. If necessary, glue the netting in place. In addition to stores that sell fishing tackle, many party supply stores sell decorative fishing net in a variety of colors.
