Christmas Goodies -- And More

Homemade Christmas Gift Basket Ideas

candy canes

Christmas goodies are popular holiday gifts and can make lovely gift baskets. And, they are appropriate gifts for men, women, friends, family, and coworkers. This is a good choice if you have a limited budget or if you want to make several identical gifts. If you live near a dollar or other discount store, you should find small baskets, shred, as well as other items to place in your gift baskets.

Wicker baskets make nice containers, but if you would like something more unique, visit the gift basket containers page of this web site for many other options.

Use red, green, or gold to your Christmas goodies gift baskets; this can be in the filler products (shred, tissue, raffia), small silk red flowers or greenery between the gifts, or gold, red, or green bows or curly ribbon to finish off your gift baskets. Another nice touch is to add a Christmas theme cookie cutter tied in with the bow or ribbon.

Another idea is to choose a white wicker basket and line it with quality Christmas theme paper napkins or a holiday plaid cloth napkin. Then fill your Christmas Goodies gift basket with individually wrapped Christmas cookies, chocolates, candy canes, hot chocolate mix, herbal tea bags, or small packages of gourmet coffee.

Mix in some purchased chocolates with red, gold, and green foil wrappers -- such as Hershey's Kisses.

If you want to add a scented candle, choose a coffee, chocolate, or a food scent. Flowery scents might seep into the food items.

christmas candies If you are so inclined, homemade Christmas gifts-in-a-jar are inexpensive Christmas gifts and easy to make. You will find tips for placing the ingredients in the jars as well as decorating and finishing touches.

For those looking for easy to make Christmas gifts, choose attractive clear jars with lids. Layer foil wrapped Christmas candies alternating the colors; such as red, green, and gold Hershey's bells, kisses, etc. To change it up a little, add a layer of red and white wrapped peppermints.

DECORATIVE TIPS:
  • Give your gift basket a yummy finishing touch by making some of these chocolate coffee spoons to place in your Christmas goodies gift basket.

  • When a romantic touch is important, place two candy canes together in a heart shape. This works best if it can be attached to something so the heart shape will stay intact.

  • Make several non-edible candy canes using chenille stems, which are available at craft stores. Choose red and white stems and twist them together to form candy canes. Use more than two stems if you want a more substantial finished product. This is a fun craft idea for children.
Here are several other pages of my website which should be helpful when planning your Christmas gifts. Here's my favorite item to place in a Christmas Goodies gift basket: You can make your own sugar cookie dough or you can do as I do and purchase Pillsbury's Sugar Cookie Dough in the refrigerator section of my local supermarket. Christmas ornament Using Christmas cookie cutters I cut out several cookies that are intended to be Christmas ornaments. Place the cookies on a baking sheet and sprinkle with red or green sugar. Next, before baking, poke a hole in each cookie, which after baking, you will thread through narrow ribbon or raffia. Use enough ribbon to tie a bow so it can be hung it on a tree or placed in a wreath. Wrap each cookie individually in a small cello bag or clear Sarah Wrap so it doesn't get broken or soiled in your gift basket. This is a wonderful idea for a cookie exchange or to send to school with your children.

Easy, Inexpensive Christmas Goodies Gift Ideas:
  • Dip pretzel rods in melted chocolate (not the entire pretzel rod; 1/2 to 2/3 of the rods work best). Then coat the chocolate dipped pretzel rods in crushed red and white peppermint candy. After the chocolate and candy is setup, wrap each rod in cellophane wrap and tie with ribbon. Sarah type of wrap may pull off the crushed candy.

  • Using a holiday tin as the container, fill it with a packaged cookie mix, cookie cutters, sprinkles, etc. First, line the tin with a holiday theme potholder, tea towel, or quality paper napkins.

  • Fill a basket, pail, or any other unbreakable container with homemade cookies, candy, tea bags, or packets of hot chocolate mix. If your budget allows, add a cd of holiday music. Place some kind of filler material (purchased shred or holiday gift wrap which you have cut with a scissor or paper shredder) in the bottom of the container before adding the gift items.

  • This is a really cute idea using candy canes wrapped in cello. Use a terra-cotta flower pot for the container. Place some variation of paper as a filler in the bottom. Then place several candy canes in the flower pot and fill in the empty spaces with pieces of candy; Hershey's Kisses wrapped in red and green foil are very festive. Finish off your gift with a wide green or gold ribbon around the top of the flower pot; using glue or double sided tape to hold the ribbon in place.

  • For young children, place a copy of The Night Before Christmas in a small basket. Then fill it with their favorite wrapped candies or other Christmas goodies.
