Caramel Apple Recipe
This easy caramel apple recipe is a yummy and inexpensive homemade gift to place in most theme gift baskets. You can also easily customize each apple for the individual person.
- If the recipient is a chocoloholic, roll the apple in mini chocolate chips after coating in the melted caramel.
- If he or she loves nuts, then roll in the apple in chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, pecans, or salted peanuts) after coating with caramel.
- For a holiday use chopped candy of the appropriate color; for example, roll the caramel dipped apples in chopped candy cane.
- Another idea is to roll in sprinkles or other purchased bottles of cake decorating products.
Recipe For Caramel Apples
6 medium sized apples
1 package of caramels (14 - 16 oz)
2 tablespoons water
6 popsicle sticks
Remove any stems from the apples; wash and dry well.
Insert a popsicle stick into the stem end.
Unwrap the caramels and melt in a microwave or in a saucepan with the 2 tablespoons of water.
Dip each apple in the hot caramel sauce using a butter knife to spread the caramel well.
If using nuts, chocolate chips, or other candy holding by the popsicle stick gently roll so the bottom half of the apple is coated.
Place the dipped apples on waxed paper and place in the refrigerator to cool.
Decorative Wrapping Ideas
(1) Cut clear or colored cello wrap in large squares. Place each apple in the center and bring the wrap far enough up the stick so you can secure the wrap with raffia, curly ribbon, or other narrow ribbon.
(2) Small cello bags are another good choice. Simply place one in each bag and tie it with ribbon.
