Homemade Beach Gift Baskets

sun

Beach gift baskets are wonderful gift ideas for anyone who likes the beach or swimming or as a bon voyage gift. It's nice to personalize your gift basket for a holiday and special occasion.

Start with a unique container such as a canvas beach bag, a cooler, or an unbreakable basin, tub, or pail. A wicker basket works well also.

If you've never made a gift basket before, you may want to read through my web page with assembly directions and decorating tips. Small shells or smooth stones would look very nice placed around the items in the gift basket; or glue the shells to the handle using a hot glue gun or glue sticks.

Start placing the gifts in beach gift baskets with an inflatable beach ball to cushion all the other items. Add sunscreen, insect repellent, a can cooler, sunglasses, a cap or visor, issue of her favorite magazine, a toy frisbee, a cd of ocean sounds or serene music, or a paperback book. Include several small bags of snacks that will withstand the sun.

For a young child's birthday gift, fill a plastic pail with beach toys like plastic shovels, a sand sifter, other small beach toys, and well wrapped snack foods. In addition to sand toys, a jump rope, bubbles, or a yo-yo are good filler items. Top it off with a pair of child's sun glasses or a pair of little flip-flops.

For those who are crafty, why not make citronella candles to include in your homemade beach gift baskets. Actually, these candles placed in a small wooden crate or wicker basket with some straw would make a great gift without adding anything else.

Easy assembly ideas: Place a rolled up towel in the empty basket or other container. Not only is this a useful gift, but it cushions the gift and food items. Use netting or tulle to hold small gifts such as soap, a natural sea sponge, or loofah; gather and tie the netting or tulle at the top with ribbon or raffia. This adds a pretty, decorative touch.
