Bath Recipes

Include in Your Spa or Bath Gift Baskets

bath salts

Try these bath recipes for homemade bath or or body products made with natural and gentle ingredients. This is a great way to personalize your bath or spa gift baskets! If you've never attempted this, give it a try with one of these easy recipes. Add a decorative touch by using a unique bottle or jar. Many craft and housewares stores sell empty bottles and jars.

Finishing Touches for Bottles and Jars: Tie with ribbon, raffia, or twine. Adhere a label to the bottle or jar noting the name of the bath recipes; or tie a label into the ribbon, raffia, or twine. If you prefer, wrap the entire bottle or jar in colorful tissue paper or netting; tie with a ribbon, raffia, or twine to hold the wrapping in place.

Here are four body and bath recipes, which I have used:

Scented Bath Salts Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup sea or kosher salt
1/2 cup Epson salt
12 drops scented oil (lavender, rosewood, patchouli, etc.)
1/4 cup baking soda
food coloring (optional)

Blend both salts and oil in bowl; add baking soda and mix well.

Pour in bottle or jar, add a label, and decorate.
Tie small labels into the string.

Scented Bubble Bath or Body Wash Recipe
Ingredients:
1/2 cup unscented or baby shampoo
3/4 cup water
2 teaspoons salt (table, kosher, or sea salt)
12 drops scented oil
1/2 teaspoon vitamin E or baby oil (optional)

Pour shampoo in a bowl; add water and stir gently until mixed.

Stir in salt. Add fragrance oil and pour in a decorative bottle.

Soothing Bath Tea Recipe
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sea or Epson salt
2 tablespoons Chamomile or Green tea
1/4 cup dried rosemary or sage
1/2 cup dried flower petals
2 tablespoons dried lemon or orange peel (homemade or available in spice section of your supermarket)

Combine all ingredients. Divide mixture into small muslin bags or 6 inch squares of cheesecloth; tie with string or cord.

Tie small labels into the string.

TIPS:
  • If you are using these bath recipes or other small bath items as gifts, wrap bars of soap individually in tissue paper and tie with ribbon.

  • Shop at your local crafts store for small muslin or other fabric bags.

  • Small wooden crates which work well for bars of soap and small bottles of body and bath products.

  • Recycle small jars or bottles with tight-fitting lids. Wash, sterilize, and dry the jars and bottles well. Remove unwanted labels from glass by placing a cloth soaked in warm, white vinegar over the label for at least 20 minutes.

  • Another option is to reuse plastic or glass tub-type jars (like cold cream comes in).

  • Decorate the clean, dry jars and bottles with pretty stickers or painted using stencils.
